Teen arrested after Sauvie Island crash leaves one dead

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — An 18-year-old was arrested after a Sauvie Island crash left one person dead Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to the Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded at around 12:40 a.m. to reports of a person not breathing following a single-car crash on Northwest Gillihan Road.

When deputies arrived, they said they found a girl dead at the scene. She had been the passenger in a side-by-side utility task vehicle.

Officials said that the crash happened on private property.

The driver, Ayden Heard, was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and then booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges including second-degree manslaughter, reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants.

The investigation is still underway.
