According to authorities, they learned that the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening. Deputies were told that the victim heard a knock at her front door and observed an unknown male subject who stated, “There she is!” Once the victim attempted to close the door, 24-year-old Jalexus Kennedy of Grambling, La., allegedly forced the door onto the victim and entered the apartment.
The victim was then allegedly shot by Kennedy with a handgun. After the victim fell on the floor, Kennedy allegedly stood over the victim and attempted to shoot her again; however, the firearm malfunctioned. Kennedy fled the scene after she tried to shoot the victim several additional times.
During the investigation, authorities learned that Kennedy is the former partner of the victim’s girlfriend. Before the shooting, Kennedy allegedly asked the victim’s girlfriend to spend the night with her. The victim’s girlfriend rejected Kennedy’s request, and authorities were advised that Kennedy was jealous of the relationship between the victim and the victim’s girlfriend.
Kennedy was accused of attempting to fight the victim days before the shooting. Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Kennedy, and she was arrested on May 11, 2025.
She was charged with Home Invasion and Attempted Second-Degree Murder. Her bond was set at $600,000.
