The discovery occurred around 5:25 p.m. on Thursday. CHP officers said they noticed a silver Infiniti SUV with paper plates on Baldwin Street. The driver of the SUV began to walk away from the Infiniti as authorities approached, CHP said.
Officers contacted the driver and asked for his driver’s license, but he fled on foot. After a short foot chase, the suspect was detained.
CHP said they found an unserialized Smith & Wesson revolver, two digital scales and a large quantity of individually packaged cocaine in the SUV.
The driver was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for suspicion of possession of a controlled substance for sale, carrying a loaded firearm in public, being a felon in possession of a firearm and resisting arrest.
