Truck left dangling after bridge collapses in Lehigh County

(WPHL) — A truck carrying petroleum was left dangling after a bridge collapsed as the vehicle was crossing in Lehigh County.

According to the Lower Macungie Fire Department, emergency crews were dispatched to 3701 Orchid Place at 12:28 for a report of a “collapse with rescue”.

“Fire personnel found a propane tanker resting on a middle bridge abutment, the rear of the vehicle suspended over the water, and an occupant in the driver seat,” said the fire department.

Crews were able to safely rescue the driver, who they say was uninjured.

Officials say no hazardous materials were leaked into the waterway or the environment.

Lehigh County Special Operations, Fire Command Staff, and other officials were able to offload the remaining petroleum product from the truck onto an awaiting tanker truck to prevent any hazards from occurring.

The truck was then removed from the water.

Officials say the driveway to Wildlands Conservancy on Orchid Place will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time.

Pennsylvania State Police is investigating this incident.
