Unhoused man arrested after allegedly shooting man and throwing body into Schuylkill River

(WPHL) — Philadelphia Police have announced the arrest of an unhoused man who is being charged with shooting a man and throwing his body in the Schuylkill River.

This all happened on February 7 at 10:15 a.m. when police located a body floating in the Schuylkill River near Kelly Drive and Midvale Avenue.

The man, later identified as Joshua Daywalt from Phoenixville, was pronounced dead at the scene.

After the Philadelphia Medical Examiner’s Office conducted a post-mortem examination, the man was found to have a single gunshot wound behind his right ear and a possible graze wound to the lower right back of his head.

The cause of death was determined to be a gunshot wound to the head, and the death was ruled a homicide.

According to preliminary information from police, Daywalt was unhoused and was known to frequent the Manayunk area, near the Green Lane Bridge at Main Street and Green Lane.

3 months later, on April 29, Philadelphia police were able to arrest 61-year-old Roger Rosson on murder and related offenses.

At this time, police have not released a mugshot or a motive for the homicide.
