One driver was arrested for child endangerment for allegedly bringing an infant to the illegal car rally. A second person was arrested and booked into the Hayward Jail for reckless driving after air units allegedly spotted them performing sideshow stunts during the street takeover.
“[California Highway Patrol and Alameda County Sheriff’s Office air units] both arrived overhead and observed about 15 vehicles and 30 people at the intersection,” the California Highway Patrol told KRON4. “There were two vehicles seen involved in active sideshow activity spinning doughnuts.”
Because the sideshow took place in an industrial zone with no citizen traffic and only two ways in or out, the Regional Sideshow Enforcement Team rounded up the crowd by performing a box-in maneuver, the CHP said. After boxing-in the crowd, arrest teams moved in.
“The group of spectators ran to their vehicles and attempted to escape,” the CHP said. “Most of the vehicles drove into the parking lot of the Brooks Motor Cars facility where they realized they were trapped and quickly surrendered.”
No law enforcement officers were injured and no police vehicles were damaged during the bust.
