Chicago police said 33-year-old Breanna Gilliams, a Near North Side resident, has been charged with one felony count of first-degree murder.
According to police, the charge stems from the suspect’s alleged role in a deadly early-morning shooting that unfolded in Old Town back in March.
Officers said the incident occurred just after 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, March 16, near the suspect’s home in the 300 block of North Hudson Avenue.
Offices responded to the scene following a report of a shooting in the area, but when they arrived on the scene, they found a 44-year-old man who had suffered a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
The victim was later taken to the hospital but died from his injuries the next day.
Gilliams evaded police until she was taken into custody in connection with the shooting in Englewood on Tuesday.
Gilliams appeared in court for a detention hearing on Thursday, though it is unclear when she is set to return to court.
It remains unclear what led to the shooting and authorities have not yet identified the victim killed.
