Officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department were dispatched around 8:33 p.m. to the 700 block of S. Post Road in response to a personal injury accident.
IMPD said officers arrived on the scene and found an adult male suffering from serious injuries. He was last reported to be in “very” critical condition. IMPD noted the motorcyclist was not wearing a helmet and believe that excessive speeds may have played a role in the crash.
“It’s starting to warm up, so we’re starting to get into the beginning of the summer. You need to watch your speeds. In this case, the road wasn’t a factor. But as we know, after the winter, (potholes) pop up and everything,” IMPD Capt. Don Weilhammer said. “Again, that wasn’t a factor here, but another reason you need to watch your speed is you don’t know on those (potholes) many times until the very last minute. Let’s have a safe summer. Let’s slow down, watch our speeds and wear our helmets and make sure we obey all the traffic laws.”
It remains unclear if drugs or alcohol were possible factors as well. The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
This was the second serious crash IMPD was called to investigate Tuesday night. Shortly after 8 p.m., police responded to the 9800 block of E. Washington Street where they found an adult male who had suffered a “severed” leg. He was transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition.
