Each month, News Ten partners with Bob Giles of Giles Automotive to give a stranger an envelope of cash that they have to ‘pay forward.’
Bob Giles and News Ten’s Layne Miller met Sherry Fontenot. Even though Fontenot said she has seen the segment before, she had a hard time thinking of someone to give the money to.
“Y’all caught me off guard,” Fontenot said.
“We catch everyone off guard,” Giles said.
Fontenot decided to ‘Pay it Forward’ to one of her daughter’s coworkers, Lisa Laverne. Fontenot said Laverne is a single mom.
“Just from what I understand, she’s raised her son on her own. He’s a teenager, a young teenager. They’ve had some struggles,” Fontenot said. “She is a beautiful person, and she could definitely use the help.
We went surprise Lisa with the one thousand dollars while she was at work.
The entire office was expecting a treat, as Fontenot was bringing snacks for everyone to celebrate her daughter, Ashlyn’s birthday. Lisa was not expecting an extra treat- an envelope of cash.
“You deserve it, Lisa,” Fontenot said.
“I’ve been a single mom for about five years,” Laverne said. “My son lost his dad two years ago. Thank y’all so much.”
“Well, don’t pay bills with it,” Giles said. “Go do something for yourself.”
