Landman

Taylor Sheridan and music supervisor Andrea von Foerster have done it again.

If you’re familiar with the Paramount Network hit series

Yellowstone, you know that it features the best soundtrack on television. We’re talking about some of the best country music artists in the game, particularly from the Texas, Appalachian and overall, non-mainstream country music scenes. Artists like Turnpike Troubadours, Ryan Bingham, Whiskey Myers, Shane Smith & The Saints, Tyler Childers, Zach Bryan, Cody Jinks, Sturgill Simpson… the list goes on. It’s honestly one of the main reasons I like to watch the show. Especially given the fact that it’s taken years to go from one season to the next… but that’s another story.

This past Sunday’s episode featured music from Colter Wall and Miranda Lambert, the Season 5 Part 2 premiere featured Flatland Cavalry & Kaitlin Butts, with a new song performed by Ryan Bingham… it’s just too good. And best of all, it gives real exposure to these artists, which in some cases, has had profound effects on their music careers. More streams, more ticket sales, more money… it’s good stuff.

Of course, Taylor Sheridan has another brand new show in the works, Landman starring Billy Bob Thornton, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore and others. The show premiered with 2 episodes this past Sunday, and to nobody’s surprise, the West Texas-based oil show has another killer soundtrack… well, at least so far. Despite the sometimes awkward and outrageous dialogue, especially between Thornton’s character Tommy Norris and his 17 year old daughter, the show has featured music from Treaty Oak Revival, Vincent Neil Emerson, Tanner Usrey, 49 Winchester, Brent Cobb, Whiskey Myers, Turnpike, Ward Davis Ella Langley and more.

It remains to be seen what kind of fanbase the show will develop, and what that will mean for some of the artists involved, but Taylor Sheridan is on top of the world right now and he’s earned the “I’ll check it out” attitude from me. Tulsa King dabbled with country music here and there, but it seems like Landman is another home run for the genre.

Check out a quick list of the songs from the first two episodes:

Episode 1: Landman

“La Diabla” – Xavi

“No Vacancy” – Treaty Oak Revival

“Debtor’s Blues” – Vincent Neil Emerson

“Boomtown” – Treaty Oak Revival

“Take Me Home” – Tanner Usrey

“The Housefire” – Turnpike Troubadours

“Everlasting Lover” – 49 Winchester

Episode 2: Dreamers & Losers

“Bad Medicine” – Whiskey Myers

“Another Bad Apple” – Ward Davis

“Make Me Wanna Smoke” – Ella Langley

“Snakebite” – Brent Cobb

“Mean Old Sun” – Turnpike Troubadours

And don’t worry, we put all the songs in one place for you. Give a follow to Whiskey Riff’s “Landman – The Soundtrack” playlist featuring every song from every episode, updated in real time every Sunday night.
