Coronavirus: Pleasanton testing site now open for all local residents, regardless of symptoms

PLEASANTON — The COVID-19 testing site at the Alameda County Fairgrounds is now open to all residents ages 10 and up, regardless of symptoms.

With new testing criteria that began Monday, the testing site is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday at the Alameda County Fairgrounds in Pleasanton. Now, all residents can get tested, regardless of their symptoms and no appointment or doctor’s recommendation is needed, according to the city.

Residents must live in Pleasanton, Dublin or Livermore in order to qualify, and must be 10 years of age or older in order to get tested.

“We encourage ALL residents to get tested,” said a Pleasanton press release.

The drive-through testing site opened in late April, but at first was only open to those who had qualifying symptoms or were over age 65, homeless or pregnant. Those requirements have since been eliminated to open testing for all residents.

The regional testing site is run by the Stanford Health ValleyCare, and operated by the cities of Pleasanton, Dublin and Livermore. All insurances will be accepted at the site and will be billed, but there will be no out of pocket costs. Those without insurance will have the cost of testing waived.

To enter the fairgrounds, use Gate 12, which is located off Valley Avenue in Pleasanton. Test results could take up to 72 hours to be processed, and residents will be notified by phone or email.

When it opened, it was expected that the testing site had the capacity to run 150 tests per day, or 750 tests a week. In the first week of operation, more than 1,000 tests were administered, exceeding the anticipated 750 weekly tests.
