Banks, Rokita Statements on Indiana Secretary of State Race

Fort Wayne, Indiana – With Max Engling officially qualifying to serve as Indiana’s next Secretary of State, U.S. Senator Jim Banks and Attorney General Todd Rokita have withdrawn their endorsements of Diego Morales and issued statements on the Secretary of State race.

Both Banks and Rokita are thankful to Diego Morales for his service, but believe Republicans should unite behind the strongest possible nominee to defeat the Democrats this fall.

Said U.S. Senator Jim Banks: “Max Engling is a key member of my team and will make a great Secretary of State. Max is a strong conservative who will keep our elections safe and secure, support Indiana small businesses and farmers, and he will win in November. He has my full and total support!”

Said Attorney General Todd Rokita: “I have spoken with Diego. The Secretary of State’s office is too important to be lost to out-of-touch, left-wing Democrats who put Hoosiers last. To that end, I have asked Diego to suspend his campaign. With so many self-inflicted wounds and issues, I now do not believe he can win in November. I have put an enormous amount of work into successfully implementing a Hoosier-first agenda as Attorney General and as Secretary of State. Republican delegates successfully faced this scenario in 2020 when I was elected with the largest number of votes in Indiana candidate history after taking on a flawed incumbent at the convention.
Republican Delegates can put Hoosiers First by allowing Max Engling to contact them and earn their support.”

Background:

Max Engling is a husband to Kelcey and a father of four. He is a Christian and an active member of his church in Noblesville. He serves as a senior advisor to U.S. Senator Jim Banks and previously worked at Beck’s Hybrids, where he built a strong background in agriculture and a deep understanding of the challenges facing farmers and rural communities.

Max is a graduate of Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis and received a Master’s degree from the Naval War College.
