Gollum actor Andy Serkis has suggested that Avengers: Doomsday will include the long-awaited return of Kamala Khan AKA Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani.
Last seen in 2023’s The Marvels, Vellani’s popular take on the character of Ms. Marvel is, so far, absent from the official Avengers: Doomsday cast list. But there’s good reason to believe she will be back — not least the fact that Serkis seems to have confirmed it.
During a Cinemahub interview, Vellani and Serkis chatted about their upcoming projects, including Serkis’ return as Gollum in The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum movie, which he is directing and starring in.
“I’m excited for Gollum!” Vellani says.
“I’m excited to see you in Doomsday!” Serkis responds.
“No, you can’t say that!” Vellani replies.
“Oh I can’t?” Serkis says, his voice suddenly changing. “Oh, well, if there should ever be the chance to see you in a film, like called Doomsday…”
“If there is a chance, like Doomsday…” Vellani quickly says. “But Gollum’s happening for sure!”

Does Serkis have insider information, or was he just a little over-excited? Since he and Vellani are currently promoting a movie together (a new animated version of Animal Farm) it seems logical to think the pair have chatted. Vellani’s presence in Doomsday is yet to be confirmed by Marvel itself, however, which would explain why she does her best job to deflect the situation.
But her return feels fairly likely, not least because we last saw her beginning to form a new Young Avengers team, encouraging Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop to join her as they recruit Cassie Lang, most recently played by Kathryn Newton. And, of course, Kathryn Newton has just been confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday.
Intriguingly, the suggestion is that Newton is only filming for Doomsday now, months after principal photography for the movie wrapped. The expectation among fans is that characters with more minor roles will have their scenes filmed this year during additional shooting, and some small cameos for Lang (as well as Imani and whoever else gets recruited into the Young Avengers) seem likely, while the main Avengers are off dealing with Doom. Such an appearance would also set the characters up for a larger role in next year’s Avengers: Secret Wars, ahead of a long-rumoured dedicated Young Avengers project in future.
In the new Animal Farm movie, Serkis voices Mr. Jones, the farm’s owner. Vellani voices Puff and Tammy, a pair of piglets. The movie also features the voices of Seth Rogen, Glen Close, Steve Buscemi and Woody Harrelson.
