This particular set was released back in September of 2023 and it’s still the biggest Hogwarts Castle set outside of the garganutan 2018 6,020-piece predecessor. As its name implies, this set encompasses more than just the castle’s central structures (main tower, astronomy tower, and great hall). Instead, you also get a “zoomed-out” perspective that showcases the numerous courtyards, bridges, and greenhouses that dot the grounds, as well as a glimpse of the Black Lake and the rocky embankment (including the underground Chamber of Secrets) on which the castle is situated.

Key set pieces are also included, such as Durmstrang Ship, Beauxbatons Carriage, and the Ford Anglia caught in the Whomping Willow. As far as minfigs go, there’s only one: a Golden Architect of Hogwarts, but it is exclusive to this set.

The scale is modestly sized, measuring in at 8.5″ high, 13.5″ wide, and 10″ deep, similar to a LEGO Architecture set. Given the high brick count, you can correctly assume that the pieces are generally on the smaller side. On the positive side, that makes this set look extremely detailed. On the other hand, this also makes the build a bit more challenging.

Kevin Wong of IGN built this set and points out that the finished product is meant to be more for display than interactivity. That makes sense, since this is a set catered towards builders 18+. We adults are less prone to playing with our LEGOs than collecting and admiring them. Kevin is also currently engaging in a custom years-long build that involves combining all of the Harry Potter castle sets into one “mega-set”, with Hogwarts Castle and Grounds as the base.
