According to 2025 research undertaken by Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, 91% of employers offer some form of arrangement, primarily driven by the need to attract and retain talent. Flexible working requires a combination of digital technology, secure infrastructure, and physical equipment to enable collaboration and productivity outside a traditional office.

It is within this business environment that Panasonic has launched its new TOUGHBOOK 40mk3. The company says it is the most rugged and modular Panasonic TOUGHBOOK ever made. It features the latest Intel AI Boost neural processing unit (NPU) for processing mission-critical data at the edge, and market-leading processing power, modularity, and graphics performance. Panasonic says it provides the modern mobile worker with a balanced solution.

Next-generation performance

The TOUGHBOOK 40mk3 utilises the Intel Core Ultra 5 processor 235H powering Intel vPro. Panasonic says this ensures overall performance remains unaffected when operating AI-driven workflows on Windows 11 Pro. For maximum performance, the Intel Core Ultra 7 processor 265H, powering Intel vPro, provides an additional boost in computing power.

The latest TOUGHBOOK 40 is now compatible with the optional AMD Radeon W7500M 8GB graphics chip for enhanced performance. For mobile workers responsible for keeping energy grids operational, this helps them to easily access detailed 3D mapping, simulation, and CAD software. For frontline operatives in defence, this provides clearer, faster, and more accurate topography and mapping rendering, improving situational awareness.

To ensure mobile workers can operate for an entire shift, the TOUGHBOOK 40mk3 delivers up to 12 hours of battery life on a single charge. This can be extended to 24 hours when using 2 hot-swappable batteries. This maximises productivity when using demanding AI-driven applications in the field.

Market-leading modularity

The TOUGHBOOK 40mk3 continues Panasonic’s “modular-first” design philosophy. With an identical form factor to its predecessor, many of the peripherals are compatible with the latest model and features four expansion areas. This enhances overall flexibility, usability, and sustainability, whilst protecting existing investments. The latest TOUGHBOOK 40 was tested by an independent third-party lab following MIL-STD-810H & MIL STD 461G test standards.

“The 40mk3 features the renowned levels of ruggedness, modularity, and dependability that users have come to expect from Panasonic. Featuring the same internal platform as the recently launched TOUGHBOOK 56, the 40mk3 gives organisations increased flexibility when configuring and deploying different devices in multiple environments,” said Dirk Weigelt, Senior Product and Solutions Manager at Panasonic TOUGHBOOK.
