- More flight cancellations due to government shutdown
As the shutdown continues, more flights will be canceled. According to reports, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) instructed airlines to reduce their flights due to a shortage of air traffic controllers during the government shutdown.
“I actually flew earlier this week, and there was a delay, but we’re expecting that. So, we just got here a little early. Thankfully, our flight wasn’t cancelled because there are hundreds that have been. We’re just rolling with the punches. We know that our next flight in Houston will be delayed. I already got the notification, but at least it wasn’t cancelled; we’re thankful for that,” Airline traveler Cody Heard said.
Reportedly, the mandate is for a 10 percent reduction at 40 high-volume airports. “We are actually going on an international trip and so we knew we were on the safe list. We were lucky with that. We didn’t want to start the trip thinking about negative thoughts, you know? In the worst case, we were driving to Houston,” Heard said.
A post on the Lafayette Regional Airport’s Facebook page recommends that passengers check directly with the airline to see if their flight is affected. “I was a little more worried than she was. I figured we’re going to do our best, we’re going to be patient and we’re going to go have a great time,” an airline traveler said.
