Anoka County Sheriff’s office still seeking answers 36 years after infant’s death

In 1989, an 8-month-old infant was brought to the hospital, where he later died. While authorities ruled his death a homicide, no arrests have ever been made in the decades since.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office said Michael Robert Freeman, 8 months old, was at home in Fridley with a babysitter when he went into seizures and was taken to the hospital. A day later, he died.

An autopsy conducted after his death showed the infant had sustained a skull fracture, a large subdural hemorrhage and cerebral edema. His death was ruled a homicide.

However, the sheriff’s office stated that there was not enough probable cause for an arrest to be made, resulting in the case remaining unsolved for the last 36 years.

The Anoka County Sheriff’s Office is still seeking answers and requests that anyone with information about the investigation contact them at ACSOColdCases@anokacountymn.gov.

They are also asking anyone who has photos of Benjamin that they might be able to use for public use to email them as well.
