According to Chicago police, 28-year-old Justin Abbott, a Skokie resident, has been charged with one felony count of aggravated battery with the discharge of a firearm.
Authorities say the charge stems from an incident that unfolded just minutes before Abbott’s arrest Monday morning.
Police said the incident allegedly unfolded around 9 a.m. in the 5700 block of North Broadway, in Edgewater, near the Bryn Mawr Red Line stop.
Officers said the victim, a 23-year-old woman, got into an argument with Abbott, and amid the altercation, he allegedly pulled out a gun and opened fire in the woman’s direction.
The victim suffered a gunshot wound to her shoulder and was later taken to the hospital, where she was admitted in serious condition.
Officers quickly caught up with Abbott in the 800 block of West Ainslie and took him into custody within half an hour of the shooting.
It remains unclear what led up to the altercation and authorities have not provided an update on the victim’s condition.
Abbot is set to appear in court on Wednesday for a detention hearing.
