Ogle County woman arrested after driving through ditch, leading police on chase

OREGON, Ill. (WTVO) — Police in Ogle County said a woman they had encountered for a welfare check initially agreed to return home, then drove through a ditch and led police on a pursuit.

According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 2400 block of South Daysville Road around 6 p.m. Tuesday to check on the welfare of a driver.

Authorities said the driver, Debra Dyer, 65, agreed to continue home.

However, she immediately drove through a ditch, police said. Deputies attempted to pull her over, but she sped off, leading police on a brief pursuit to Austin Court.

There, Dyer was arrested and charged with reckless driving and attempting to elude a police officer.

She was taken to the Ogle County Jail for processing and then released with a notice to appear at a future court date.
