The company unveiled the self-driving vehicle at the Louisiana State Fair in Shreveport on October 31. Attendees can get an up-close look at Sportran’s future transportation, which features a sleek design and advanced technology.
The company’s CEO, Dinero’ Washington, made the announcement about the self-driving cars in September during a conference in Boston with more than 2,500 transit leaders in attendance. Washington discussed the new project and emphasized that the vehicles will not replace any jobs, but instead, they will change the way jobs are performed at SporTran.
He added that the autonomous vehicles will not take over the entire system. Additionally, he mentioned that they are aiming to create more jobs, including positions with competitive salaries, to ensure that operations continue to run smoothly.
SporTran is currently testing several additional vehicles, and once these vehicles become operational, each will have an attendant on board. Washington stated that SporTran will also establish an operations control center, where staff can manage vehicles in real-time from their base.
You can see the vehicle at the Louisiana State Fair in front of the Hirsch Coliseum from now through November 9.
