JEFFERSON PARISH, La. (WGNO) — Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop B investigated two fatal crashes in Jefferson and St. Bernard Parishes, according to LSP.

On Monday, Nov. 3, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian on Louisiana 48 near Labarre Road in Jefferson Parish. As a result of the crash, 79-year-old Phillip Harris of Harahan died.

According to LSP troopers, the investigation revealed that a 2007 Toyota Tundra was going south on LA 48, heading near the Labarre Road intersection, where there was a green light. At the same time as the vehicle, Harris entered the pedestrian crosswalk from the median and was struck by the Toyota as it went through the intersection.

Due to his injuries, Harris was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

This is still an ongoing investigation.

Around 6:30 p.m., on the same day, troopers responded to a single vehicle crash on Louisiana 625 in St. Bernard Parish. In this crash, 46-year-old Arturo Castro-Hernandez was killed.

According to LSP troopers, the investigation uncovered that Castro-Hernandez was driving a 2003 Honda Accord east on LA 625. The Honda veered across the opposite lane and off the roadway before impacting a culvert.

LSP officials said Castro-Hernandez was unrestrained and was partially ejected from the car. LSP troopers said he was pronounced dead at the scene. This is also an ongoing investigation.
