Witness follows suspect involved in deadly Taylorsville hit-and-run crash, leads to arrest

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (ABC4) — The man believed to be involved in a hit-and-run crash, that left one person dead, has been identified.

On Sunday, Nov. 2, a hit-and-run crash left one man dead near the intersection of 5400 South and Warrior Way, just blocks away from Taylorsville High School. Reports show a vehicle struck a man on a motorcycle who would be pronounced dead at the scene.

Dennis Kilgore, 48, was arrested and booked in the Salt Lake County Jail Sunday night on multiple charges including automobile homicide, a second-degree felony.

According to a probable cause affidavit, witnesses at the scene of the crash identified the suspect vehicle as a Chevrolet Avalanche with a Utah license plate. The vehicle’s bumper was reportedly left at the scene.

Police say a witness followed the suspect to a neighborhood in Murray and photographed Kilgore exiting the Avalanche and get into another vehicle, leading officers to follow the secondary vehicle.

Kilgore allegedly took three shots of vodka around noon Sunday. Officers say his speech was slurred and they could smell alcohol on his person.

Documents show Kilgore has four prior arrests for DUI dating back to 2021.

He is being held without bail while he awaits trial.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
