The City of Minneapolis announced it is allocating $150,000 to six local food shelves as the federal government shutdown continues to disrupt SNAP funding.
More than 60,000 residents, around 14% of the population of Minneapolis, rely on SNAP benefits, the city said.
The money is coming from funds appropriated for its Homegrown Minneapolis program, which was approved for food rescue in 2024 and rolled over into 2025.
On Friday, two federal judges ruled that the government must use emergency funds to at least partially fund the program. President Donald Trump’s administration agreed to partially fund SNAP on Monday.

It’s still unclear how much beneficiaries will receive or how quickly they’ll receive their funds. November payments have already been delayed for millions of people.
