Former Homeland Security agent pleads guilty to producing child sexual abuse material

A former federal agent from Minnesota is facing mandatory prison time after he pleaded guilty to producing and sending child sexual abuse material.

Court records show Timothy Gregg of Eagan entered a guilty plea on Thursday on one count of transportation of visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.

The charge carries a minimum of five years in prison, but prosecutors are seeking a guideline sentence of between 14 and 17.5 years.

Charging documents allege Gregg recorded himself and a minor victim engaging in “sexually explicit activity” and sent them to the victim’s phone. Gregg and the victim had exchanged sexual text messages over several months and had met up several times.

Gregg was a Homeland Security Inspections special agent and a task force officer with the FBI at the time of the criminal activity and used his government email address to book the hotel rooms where he would take the minor victim, according to a criminal complaint. A judge signed a warrant for his arrest on June 2, one day before he was set to join a federal raid in the Twin Cities.

Online records show Gregg is still in custody at the Sherburne County Jail in Elk River. No sentencing date has been set.
