According to the crash report, a Freightliner truck tractor towing a semi-trailer was traveling uphill near mile marker 432 when a pickup lost control and veered off the roadway. The driver of the pickup attempted to steer back onto the highway, causing the vehicle to skid and collide with the truck tractor.
The impact caused the truck tractor to catch fire, pinning the driver inside. The truck driver sustained only minor injuries. The driver of the pickup, identified as 18-year-old Brayden Lynn Baldwin, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Road conditions were wet and rainy at the time of the crash, and both drivers were wearing seatbelts. The investigation remains ongoing.
