Baton Rouge weather: True fall weather sticks around through Halloween

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — True fall weather will stick around for the next several days.

TONIGHT: Skies will be mostly clear through the overnight hours with a calm wind by sunrise. That will allow for temperatures to drop into the low 40s for most.

HALLOWEEN: Skies will be sunny through the afternoon with highs in upper 60s to around 70. Temperatures will begin to fall after sunset, into the 50s, so you will want a light jacket with your Halloween costumes Friday night. Overall, the weather will be pleasant and enjoyable.

LOOKING AHEAD: We’ll still have nice weather this weekend, but there is a slight chance for rain Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Skies will be mostly sunny at first, but will become partly cloudy in the afternoon. Isolated showers will move through the area Saturday night and exit before sunrise Sunday. The rest of Sunday will be nice, sunny and dry. Highs will be near 70 this weekend. Morning lows will be in the 40s.

TRACKING THE TROPICS:

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica Tuesday as a catastrophic category five with winds of 185 mph and gusts of 220 mph. Melissa is tied with Dorian and the 1935 Labor Day hurricane as the strongest storms to make landfall in the Atlantic.

As of Thursday evening, Melissa is still hanging on as a category 2 hurricane. Melissa has maximum sustained wind speeds of 105 mph. Bermuda will feel impacts from Melissa through early Friday morning.
