Alexandria airport restarts nonstop flights to Houston

ALEXANDRIA, La. (WNTZ) — Travelers in Central Louisiana will soon have another convenient option for air travel. Alexandria International Airport (AEX) announced Thursday the return of nonstop daily United Express service to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) beginning May 21, 2026.

The route will be operated by SkyWest Airlines on behalf of United, reconnecting AEX passengers to United’s global network through its Houston hub. Travelers can begin booking flights immediately at united.com or by calling 800-864-8331.

“For the past few years, Central Louisiana residents – and particularly loyal United Airlines passengers – have been inquiring about the return of air service to Houston,” said Ralph Hennessy, executive director of England Airpark and Alexandria International Airport. “We have continuously shared this feedback with United and are excited that they have partnered with SkyWest to resume this critical route for business and leisure travelers alike. We are grateful to both carriers for this investment in our community.”

Cody Thomas, managing director of market development at SkyWest Airlines, said the new connection will make travel easier for local passengers.

“We’re excited to provide Central Louisiana travelers with new travel options and to make it easier for them to get where they want to go,” Thomas said. “Passengers flying through Houston will now be able to easily connect to hundreds of destinations worldwide on United’s global network.”

The reinstated route marks a significant step in expanding regional connectivity for Alexandria and the surrounding area, allowing passengers to accrue MileagePlus® loyalty points while traveling.
