Terry Connor Jr. and Steven Staples are charged with the December 2019 murder of Scott Brooks, co-owner of Brooks’ Sandwich House in Charlotte.
Prosecutors have said they will not seek the death penalty in this case.
Scott Brooks was shot and killed while opening the family’s well-known sandwich shop early one morning, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police. His death left a lasting mark on the community and on his twin brother, David Brooks, who continues to run the restaurant.
A picture of Scott still hangs over the counter at Brooks’ Sandwich House, a daily reminder of the brother David says he still expects to see each morning.
“After six years, it’s about time, and I’m not going to try and get angry about it. I know everything’s a process,” said David Brooks, who plans to be in the courtroom to make sure someone speaks for his brother.
Because of the trial, the family announced the restaurant would be closed Monday, but plans to reopen for the rest of the week.
Queen City News will have continuing coverage from inside the courtroom and updates on-air and online at QCNews.com.
