I purchased this set when it first released in 2024 (at the full $200 retail price) and it is inarguably one of my favorite LEGO sets to build and display.

The LEGO Milky Way Galaxy set 31212 is part of the LEGO Art series, which includes other notable sets like Vincent Van Gogh’s The Starry Night and Hokusai’s The Great Wave. This is one of the bigger sets, measuring 15.5″ tall and 25.5″ wide and consisting of 3,091 brick pieces. What’s unique about this representation of our Milky Way galaxy is that the set incorporates a lot of greebles, which are random LEGO pieces you wouldn’t expect in a typical space-themed build. Some examples include brush combs, cherries, flowers, hearts, whisks, bicycle helmets, purple carrots, and transparent blue french fries. The Milky Way build also benefits from an intense color palette, something that’s sorely missing in recent LEGO builds. The final build is a mesmerizing 3D display that deserves a spot on the wall. It’s a guaranteed head-turner.
