WGNO’s Kenny Lopez spoke with the Savannah Bananas’ coach, Adam Virant about their popularity because of their dance moves, and how you can snag tickets to their New Orleans games for their two-night spectacle.
“We bring a whole brand of entertainment, baseball and sports with fun and laughing, and it’s something I think the world really needs,” Virant said.
Virant said the Savannah Bananas became known for their “boogeying” on the field about four years ago.
“We really came on about four years ago when TikTok started showing snippets of our shows, and our videos started getting attention, and it has just been a meteoric rise ever since,” he said.
“We have an entire creative team that’s really second to none, and we are coming up with new, fresh ideas for every single show. The players do bring ideas to the entertainment team, and the reason we do that is because the more brains the better, but also if a player has an idea, then they are more likely to go all in on that idea,” he said.
Virant said that with the dancing he’s seen growth in his players.
“The number one thing that I’ve seen out of the players is by implementing these dances, they are now playing with a lot less pent up stress, it’s about putting smiles on faces and making unforgettable moments for families,” he said.
To get those smiles, you can only buy tickets exclusively through their website, through a lottery system up until Oct. 31.
Being on the list doesn’t guarantee a ticket, names will be randomly selected ahead of the event.
Virant said at this time, do not buy tickets from any other ticket websites.
“When it is showtime, magic is going to happen,” Virant said.
He said the future is very bright. They now have six teams in the league for league play, so the competition between the teams is heating up.
“We’re not just a dancing baseball team. We are a bona fide league that happens to dance and have fun and do unique things that you’ve never seen on a sporting field before,” Virant said.
Next year they’ve added two new teams, “Loco Beach Coconuts,” and “Indianapolis Clowns.”
The Savannah Bananas will play The Party Animals on both March 14 and March 15 at the Caesars Superdome.
