Byron woman hospitalized after disregarding stop sign, causing crash: police

OGLE COUNTY, Ill. (WTVO) — A Byron woman was hospitalized following a crash at the intersection of Illinois Route 72 and N. Pecatonica Road on Wednesday.

According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were called to the scene around 11:53 a.m.

Authorities said a red 2021 Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Marcy Tracy, 35, of Byron, was headed southbound on N. Pecatonica Road when she disregarded a stop sign and was hit by a westbound white 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by John Erbsen, 60, of Lanark.

Police said Tracy’s vehicle overturned and hit a utility pole, breaking it in half. Erbsen’s vehicle ran off the south side of the road.

Tracy was taken to SwedishAmerican Hospital in Rockford. Her injuries were said to have been minor.

She was issued citations for disobeying a stop sign, failure to reduce speed, and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
