Plane crash near Ruston airport leaves one dead

JACKSON PARISH, La. (KTVE/KARD) — Officials confirmed that on Tuesday, Oct. 21, around 10:30 a.m., the Monroe Control Tower lost contact with a pilot flying a small aircraft.

The Jackson Parish Sheriff’s Office was notified and began investigating the disappearance. After about two or three hours, the wreckage of the plane was discovered in a wooded area near Old Snipe Road in Jackson Parish, just a few miles from the Ruston airport.

As a result of the crash, one person was killed. Jackson Parish Sheriff Andy Brown confirmed that the pilot was the only occupant on board. Emergency crews responded quickly to the site, which remains under investigation by federal and local authorities.
