According to a news release, the program gives students early exposure to scientific inquiry, strengthens lab skills, and prepares them for the National Residency Match Program. First place was awarded to Claire Brescher for her project in basic or clinical research.
Second-year student Theresa Schauer presented a study on public attitudes toward childhood obesity, noting that Louisiana has the third-highest rate in the nation.
“Medical research teaches us critical thinking skills that will translate into working independently with patients,” Schauer said in a news release.
The MSRP is sponsored by the Dean’s Office at LSU Health Shreveport’s School of Medicine.
