House fire threatens Fresno neighborhood

FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A Fresno neighborhood was threatened after a vacant home caught fire Monday afternoon.

Just before 1 p.m., multiple 911 calls came in reporting a house fire on the 1200 block of W. Vassar Avenue.

Fresno Fire’s first arriving unit said they found heavy smoke coming from a vacant, boarded-up home. Initial reports suggested someone might be inside, but fortunately, no one was, and no injuries were reported.

The fire caused major damage, but crews were able to prevent it from spreading to nearby homes.

The cause remains under investigation.
