That man was transported from the scene to a local hospital, according to IMPD. Police reported that the man was in critical condition, but later died of his injuries.

IMPD’s detectives responded to the scene. Those investigators spoke with several witnesses and found multiple shell casings at the gas station.

Police detained multiple people during their investigation of the shooting, but were later released pending further investigation.

IMPD has confirmed that no formal arrests related to the shooting have been made.

“Historically, as we’ve seen the summer months come to a close, violence tends to take a downturn,” IMPD Public Information Officer Drew Brown said during a media briefing. “But this is a beautiful Saturday. What was a beautiful Saturday has been interrupted by gunfire. This wasn’t in some private area. This was a public business. The individual who was found with gunshot wounds was found right in the middle of the parking lot.”

The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to the scene to assist IMPD with its investigation. Investigators are encouraging those with additional information on the shooting to contact Detective Kristina Friel at the IMPD Homicide Office (317) 327-3475 or e-mail at Kristina.Friel@indy.gov. People can also contact Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at (317) 262-8477 if they wish to remain anonymous.
