NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Escaped Orleans Parish inmate Derrick Groves is back in Louisiana after being taken into custody in Atlanta, Georgia, according to the Louisiana State Police.
LSP officials said Groves arrived in Louisiana on Friday, Oct. 10. He was transported by members of the LSP Air Support, the LSP Violent Crime and Abatement Investigation team, the FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service.
Groves is the last of 10 inmates to be recaptured following the May escape from the Orleans Parish Jail.
He was taken into custody in Georgia on Wednesday, Oct. 8, and waived his extradition on Thursday, Oct. 9.
LSP officials said Friday’s transport back to Louisiana “marks the conclusion of a coordinated, multi-agency effort that spanned several states and showcased strong partnerships across law enforcement.”
Groves was transported from Atlanta to Baton Rouge and flown by helicopter to a “secure correctional facility.”
