Stafford County Sheriff's Office arrests 3rd-time DUI offender
STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) said one man took himself from a house party, into the woods and then to jail on Saturday.

On Oct. 4 at around 4:30 a.m., officers responded to Forest Lane Road for a single-vehicle accident. There, a Ford driver had driven into the forest and was about 40 yards from the roadway.

Deputies found the driver, identified as 32-year-old Mathew Trego, who said he accidentally drove off the road, and instead of braking, he accelerated.

SCSO said deputies noticed “strong signs of intoxication including slurred speech and the odor of an alcoholic beverage,” coming from Trego.

When confronted about it, Trego said he knew he was going to jail and wanted to be honest about his alcohol consumption. He said he had two whiskey drinks and three beers at the house party.

SCSO said this is Trego’s third offense.

He was taken to the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond and charged with driving under the influence, third offense within five years.
