The leak was reported around 11 a.m. at the intersection of Eastfield Road and Byrton Corporate Center Drive. Officials said a natural gas line was cut by construction.
According to a Queen City News photographer at the scene, the Walmart nearby was evacuated.
As of 1:45 p.m., Peidmont Natural Gas crews were still at the scene and Bryton Corporate Center Drive was closed.
It’s unclear how long it will take to repair the leak or when the Walmart will reopen for customers.
