According to the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office, deputies received a call from school leaders to report an assault on a student by a teaching assistant on Oct. 1. Deputies said the incident occurred at G. W. Bulluck Elementary School in Rocky Mount.
Warrants show that 47-year-old Regina Gray of Conetoe assaulted the male juvenile by “grabbing him by the neck.”
The victim is diagnosed with autism and is described as nonverbal, a spokesperson with the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office told CBS 17 on Tuesday.
Investigators arrested Gray on Monday and charged her with assault by strangulation, assault on an individual with a disability and misdemeanor child abuse.
She’s being held in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $20,000 secured bond.
