Fire destroys sports equipment at Lake Norman Charter Elementary School

HUNTERSVILLE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Before Lake Norman Charter Elementary School opened its doors for the first day of school, a fire broke out at a nearby building, damaging sports equipment, according to the Huntersville Fire Department.

Just before 7 a.m. on Monday, crews responded to a fire behind the school on Hambright Road. When they arrived, they saw a fully involved fire in a building.

Officials said the fire was quickly controlled, but not before it destroyed sports equipment belonging to the school.

The fire department didn’t say if anyone was injured or what started the fire. The cause is under investigation by the Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Huntersville Police Department.

According to the school’s website, the first day of school is on Thursday, August 14, with a rolling start.
