NSU women’s tennis shines at Texas State Invitational finale

SAN MARCOS, Texas (WNTZ) – Northwestern State women’s tennis closed out the Texas State Invitational on Sunday with a strong showing in both doubles and singles play, wrapping up a productive weekend of fall competition that featured several tightly contested matches against regional opponents.

The Lady Demons opened the day with an impressive doubles session highlighted by two victories. Zoi Spyrou and Honoka Umeda earned a 6-4 win over Incarnate Word’s Luciana Perez Hernandez and Alexandra Mille on Court 1, while Athina Grigoriadou and Martina Acebedo Bonocore continued their solid form with a 6-2 triumph against UTRGV’s Mariia Bakhtina and Luna Buijtenhuijs.

Lolita Hukasian and Maria Farina nearly added another victory for NSU but fell just short in a 7-6 (5) battle with UIW’s Estefania Gonzalez and Ine Lamprecht.

The Lady Demons faced a tougher challenge in the second doubles session against Stephen F. Austin, dropping all three matches. Hukasian and Farina fell 6-1 to Ksenia Mamontova and Jemma Cave, Spyrou and Umeda lost 6-2 to Sonja Rooth and Felicia Back, and Grigoriadou and Acebedo Bonocore were defeated 6-3 by Ana Paula Chavez and Avery Kinsey.
