The defensive line played a huge role in earning that big win.
“Our defensive line played great all week. Hallsville kind of more or less wanted to take the clock with them and slow the game down and run the ball. Our defensive line did a good job containing them. We held them in 92 yards of offense and just really pleased overall with our defensive effort,” head coach Gerry Stanford said.
Another notable performance was from senior running back Ahmad Moore. Moore has stepped up to replace Javari Johnson, who led the team last year in rushing and was second in touchdowns.
“Yeah, I stepped up. I’m enjoying it actually and it’s something I’ve been wanting to do and like I always say, I took notes from him [Johnson] and T-Ball [Tradarian Ball]. Later on in life it fell down on me and I’m just helping out and doing what I could do best for my team,” Moore said.
In last Friday’s game, Moore had 14 carries for 71 yards and touchdown.
“Yeah, real good, solid game. Ahmad’s been real consistent all year long, just really proud of his leadership and consistency that he brings to our team week in and week out, comes to work every day, didn’t have a whole lot to say, just goes about his business the right way, leads by example and just does a great job being a team leader,” Stanford said.
The Tigers expect to see more from both sides of the ball this week, as they search for its second district win. Texas High hosts Whitehouse on Friday, October 3.
