CATS video shows Decarlos Brown Jr. being arrested on platform following light rail stabbing

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) officials have released more video from the night Iryna Zartuska was fatally stabbed on the Blue Line.

The video shows the suspect, 34-year-old Decarlos Brown Jr., at the East/West Station in South End on August 22. He’s seen walking away from the Blue Line train in a black T-shirt with his hands wrapped in a red sweatshirt.

Police say this video was taken just after the attack on Zarutska.

Another angle shows people running from the train to get help.

A third video shows him walking on the platform before police approach with their guns drawn to take him into custody.

On September 15, a grand jury indicted Decarlos Brown Jr. for first-degree murder. He currently remains at the Mecklenburg County Detention Center. An order was also filed for Brown to be committed to Central Regional Hospital – Butner for a period not to exceed 60 days for observation and treatment, to determine his capacity to proceed. An administrative court hearing is scheduled for this October.

If Brown does not request a formal arraignment within 21 days of receiving the indictment, a not guilty plea will be entered on his behalf by the court. At this time, Brown has not entered a plea.
