Authorities investigate potential threat involving Laurel County middle school

LONDON, Ky. (FOX 56) — The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a potential threat involving a middle school.

At 7 p.m.on Wednesday, the sheriff’s office shared a post that deputies are aware of the potential threat involving North Laurel Middle School.

According to the office, the threat was shared by a parent on social media.

The sheriff’s office said it is working with school police to ensure the safety of all students and staff.

As a precaution, there will be an increased law enforcement presence in the area, and deputies will conduct extra patrols.

“Despite the lack of credible evidence supporting this accusation, we take all allegations very seriously and conduct comprehensive investigations. You may notice an increased patrol presence; however, please be assured that our intention is solely to ensure the safety and security of the children and staff. The Laurel County School system and the Laurel County School Police have been notified, and we will continue to collaborate with them to maintain a safe environment for our children. Have a good evening and a peaceful night, Laurel County,” Sheriff John Root said on Facebook.
