Maryland person accused of hitting DC officer with car during traffic stop

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — D.C. police arrested someone from Maryland accused of hitting an officer with their car while officers tried to detain them in July.

The Metropolitan Police Department said that around 2 a.m. on July 14, officers tried to stop a car in the 1300 block of U St. NW.

During the traffic stop, officers tried to detain the driver. The driver instead drove off, hitting an officer and a car as they did so.

The officer who was injured was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

On Sept. 22, officers arrested 27-year-old Izuchukwu Igwe of Upper Marlboro, Md. Igwe is facing a charge of assault on a police officer.
