Thunderstorms to hit northern Utah this afternoon, NWS says
SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Some isolated thunderstorms are expected this afternoon, Sept. 21, across portions of northern Utah, according to the National Weather Service (NWS).
More widespread precipitation is expected late tonight as a cold front helps to increase coverage, primarily across northern Utah.

Moisture continues to surge north with a southwest flow. This moisture potential is above average for this time of year and linked to a trough to our west. The trough is going to lift northeast as we make it through the weekend, and in doing so, it will provide atmospheric lift to an already moist environment.
Lingering moisture and another disturbance leaves scattered storm potential in northern Utah for Monday, but a drier pattern will set up by Monday evening. Autumn officially starts tomorrow. A few storms with the low 80s in northern Utah and low 90s in Washington County with drier conditions will kick off the season!
