Caddo Commission votes yes for $10 million pickle ball park

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)- For months, the Caddo Commission has put off voting on an ordinance that would take the first step towards building a $10 million pickleball complex.

Today that all changed the commission voted 9 yes and 3 no to approve amending the budget of estimated revenues and expenditures for the debt service fund and the capital outlay fund to provide and appropriation of $10,000,000 for the construction of a pickleball park.

For months some citizens have not been in favor of the park and many have been in favor of it.

This vote is the first step, but according to Caddo administrator Erica Bryant, many decisions still have to be made, and they will ask for citizens’ input as the project moves forward.

She went on to say, “We will definitely continue to have community input as well as commission input, we will be meeting our commission to provide information and we will hear from our citizens before we design and have a final design on the project of what they would like to see in a pickleball center.”

The proposed plans as of now include building 19 lit pickleball courts, a clubhouse, 500 parking spaces and seating for 1,000.

It is to be located in the 200 block of East Flournoy Lucas Road behind the Kroger Market Place.

The Lash Family YMCA would manage the facility.
