Just after 9 a.m. Wednesday morning, a dump truck traveling north on I-15 in Lindon lost its left rear tire. Lt. Cameron Roden with Utah Highway Patrol says the tire bounced over the wall and hit two vehicles, leading to minor injuries.

Video obtained by ABC4 shows a tire bounce over a cement wall into southbound traffic on I-15 in Lindon.

After the crash was cleared, the dump truck was still on the northbound side of the highway and traffic was slowing down for troopers investigating the crash, according to police.

During the slow down, police say a passenger car stopped and was rear ended by a semi-truck. The collision involved five vehicles and lead to one patient being in critical condition and another in serious condition.

As of 3:19 p.m., lanes reopened. All northbound lanes are open at this point, except for the HOV lane. UDOT advised the public that heavy residual delays remain.

I-15 northbound was completely blocked near mile post 273. It’s unclear when lanes will be reopened. I-15 was completely shut down at the 1600 North exit, and traffic is being forced to take that exit. In the photos below, you can see the road closure and the backup of traffic.

According to the UDOT Traffic website, northbound traffic on I-15 from roughly 1600 N to 600 N was stopped/closed. Southbound traffic in that same stretch of I-15 is considerably slowed. There may be residual traffic delays even after the lanes have reopened.

You can also see from UDOT Traffic that the crash was also having a strong impact on nearby roads, slowing traffic considerably down to Orem and up to American Fork.

The crash also impacted Alpine School District busses. The School District announced that freeway and arterial roads are experiencing significant delays due to NB I-15 being closed, and there are busing delays at multiple schools, including activity buses.

Photos submitted by a viewer show traffic backed up to Orem Center Street.
