LINDON, Utah (ABC4) — Two young girls were found in a refrigerated trailer that was involved in a critical injury crash on Wednesday afternoon in Lindon that blocked traffic for hours, according to court documents.
Jacob Ortell Scott, 28, from Huntington, Utah was arrested on suspicion of third-degree felony aggravated child abuse.
Court documents state that the young girls were found in a refrigerated trailer-truck, which was originally reported to be a dump truck, driven by Scott.
Lt. Cameron Roden with Utah Highway Patrol said that the truck lost its left rear tire, causing a multi-vehicle crash. Roden said that the tire bounced over the wall and hit two vehicles, leading to minor injuries.
Court documents state that troopers with Utah Highway Patrol were investigating the crash when one of them noticed two sets of eyes in the refrigerated trailer.
When the trooper confronted Scott about the eyes, he said he looked surprised but then said that there were kids back there. Upon further investigation, there was no way for the girls to exit from inside the refrigerated trailer.
The two girls were 14 and 12-years-old. Roden told ABC4 that the girls were not trafficked or injured.
Court documents state that after interviews were conducted, Scott mentioned that his hand was possibly broken. He was transported to the hospital. After leaving the hospital, he was taken to the Utah County Jail and is being held without bail.
Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
