Louisiana hunting seasons for teal, deer open in September: What to know
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Louisiana hunting seasons for deer and teal start on the third Saturday of September.

Here’s what to know hunters need to know.

Deer hunting in Louisiana

The hunting season starts on Sept. 20 in Deer Areas 3, 7, 8 and 10 as archery season opens. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) said archery seasons in other deer areas will start Oct. 1.

Here are the dates East Baton Rouge Parish Area 4 deer hunters should know for the season.

  • Archery: Oct. 1 to Jan. 31
  • Youth and Honorably Discharged Veterans: Oct. 25-31
  • Primitive Firearms: Nov. 8-14; Jan. 19-31
  • Firearms (Still-Hunt Only): Nov. 15 to Dec. 5; Jan. 5-18
  • Firearms (With or Without Dogs): Dec. 6 to Jan. 4

Licenses hunters need

All Louisiana deer hunters must have a basic hunting license and a deer license. Hunters under the age of 17 or younger are required to have a youth hunting license and deer tags.

Deer tags are required for all hunters. According to state wildlife officials, deer must be tagged before moving it from where it was killed, and information must be recorded and validated within 72 hours of the killing.

Ways to validate deer include using text-to-tag, through the LDWF web portal or LA Wallet or by calling the validation toll-free number.

Teal hunting in Louisiana

On the same day as deer hunting, teal hunting opens in Louisiana. According to LDWF, blue-winged, green-winged and cinnamon teal can be killed from Sept. 20-28 and during the regular duck hunting season, which starts in November.

Hunters, age 16 years and older, are required to have a Federal Duck Stamp. Anyone 18 and older is required to have a basic hunting license and be HIP certified.
